At Don Whitley Scientific, our laboratory plays a crucial role in advancing microbiology research, providing expertise and testing services to organisations across the industry. One such organisation is CEESA (Centre Européen d'Études pour la Santé Animale), a collaboration of pharmaceutical companies dedicated to animal health.
For several years, CEESA has outsourced antimicrobial susceptibility testing (MIC testing) to our laboratory as part of their MycoPath research group. This group investigates mycoplasma bacteria, which are responsible for diseases in livestock such as cattle, pigs, and poultry. Our work involves storing mycoplasma strains collected from across Europe and performing detailed MIC testing to assess antimicrobial resistance.
Our results have contributed to multiple published studies, helping to shape the understanding of mycoplasma infections and their treatment. By providing accurate and reliable microbiological testing, we support vital research that informs the development of effective veterinary medicines.
Papers include:
- Antimicrobial susceptibility monitoring of Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae isolated from seven European countries during 2015-2016.
